Local architects, Artlab, won the tender to translate the results of the Planning for Real into a concept plan for the estate. Their brief was to extract the main themes from the planning for real and produce a coherent plan, rather than to try to include every suggestion.

Children at Play

Children at Play

The issues addressed by the plan are:
Dominance of the central road by car users
The current under use of space
The lack of play for older children
The lack of physical focus
Poorly defined through ways for pedestrians

The main points of the resultant plan are:

Traffic calming principally at the entrance to the estate
Creation of a courtyard in front of middle block of flats, breaking the
line of the road and linking the flats
Creation of a ball game space for older children
A community building/shops to create a focus for the estate
Making the one pedestrian access to the estate more open and
  attractive

The concept plan is ambitious. We know that it will not be achieved in the short term - some of the elements may never be achieved. However we feel it is important to have the widest vision before focussing on the first practical steps.
